Truly Frightful...

mess, that is! So here it is, folks, baring my soul globally!! LOL I do have a couple more pigeon holes, but this is the main fabric closet. I thought revealing it on Halloween would be most appropriate as it is truly a frightening experience in there!! LOL I have been working on my Jan Patek pillow/wallhanging (don't know which yet) and also started piecing a little Christmas thingy that I may make several of and give as Christmas gifts, so I'm holding back on posting a picture of it right now. (Of course, I may be holding back on posting ANY picture as it seems blogger is definitely not playing fair today!) So, that soul-baring stuff will have to wait for another day as I guess blogger is only allowing those with the best candy to post pics today. I have tried a dozen times and it just won't let me sooo... Have a safe and Happy Halloween! :D

Time Change, Quilty Projects, and Rambling

Marcie over at Patchalot asked if I had found an applique pattern to work on. Well, the first picture is a Jan Patek wallhanging or pillow that I started playing with last night. Just needed something quick to satisfy that urge for needleturn applique. ;) The other is a quilt by Thimbleberries that I started Lord knows how long ago. I've machine-quilted, hand-quilted, machine-quilted some more LOL, and I'm back to hand-quilting now. Am almost finished quilting the blocks, will probably machine-quilt the wide outer border, and bind this puppy. :D One thing about starting this blog, and reading everyone else's, is that it has me digging through those UFOs and pulling things out to try to finish. All of these quilty blogs are a great source of motivation for me. :) Glorie, my niece/quilt buddy, is headed to Houston Quilt Market!!!! Yea!!!! She and her husband are setting out and heading in that direction anyway. So if you actually go all the way, Glorie, LOL be sure and remember to BUY TWO OF EVERYTHING!!!! ROFL And hope you have a blast, girl!! :D It is an absolutely glorious morning here in northeast TN! Hope everyone remembered to set their clocks back. :-) I love it getting light earlier in the morning, and actually, I love the shorter days that we have now. I always feel like I should be outside when the days are longer. Now I don't have to feel guilty for settling in and reading or quilting earlier in the evenings. I also love to hear the wind whistling around the windows, raking and walking in the crunchy leaves, fires in the stove, soups and stews simmering, watching the snow fall. My nesting instinct will kick in big time now that the days are shorter. :D

Windy Day

This is where I end up doing handwork and watching TV. And yes, I always have a couple of wienie dogs piled up around me. :D And my new rug that I laid around on all afternoon yesterday, looking thru quilt books in front of the fire. :D It was really a wonderful, rainy, chilly day to stay by the fire and play! These are a few more books that I got this past week. I have tons of marigolds that I want to pick and try dyeing some wool with. I'm really excited about the books on "natural" dyes. Can't wait to give it a try. One of my sisters asked if I couldn't just buy dyes to use. Well, YES, but have I ever done anything the easy way??? ROFL And it appeals to the primitive, country girl in me to try my hand at using what nature has put in front of me. I think lots of us are having a windy day. This kind of day reminds me of Halloweens when I was growing up. Blustery, chilly, cloudy. In my memory bank, it seems that most of my Halloweens were like this and I always hated having to wear a coat and cover up my costume. :D Of course, I think it's supposed to be around 70 here on Tuesday. So maybe the little goblins won't have to cover up those cute costumes this year. :) Hope everyone is having a fun Saturday.

Where Did October Go??

Wow, I can't believe that Halloween is on Tuesday, and October is on it's way out the door! Where did the month go? What do I have to show for those 31 days? Not much, I can tell you that. :D It was a beautiful month, and I find that the older I get, the faster they go, but oh they seem so much more beautiful to me too. We got enough rains that the leaves turned just beautiful shades. I kept running for the camera trying to capture them in just the right light. I'm trying to post a picture now of my view from my kitchen window. If I manage to get it loaded, you will see what I mean! :) Unfortunately, it's been raining hard ALL day, and neither sattelite nor blogger photo upload want to let me play with this today. :( I bought a couple of cheapie rugs for my "big" room, and I love the large one I got for in front of the sofa. I'm an "in the floor" kind of person, and hardwood is no fun to sit on and play. So, since I can't get blogger to let me upload pictures to go with my post today, I just dragged a bunch of quilt books in on the rug by the fire, and I'm picking out a couple of Jan Patek small wallhangings to needleturn appliqe. I'm in the mood for applique, and one of my UFOs has really gone AWOL. ROFL Sooooo, I'll just be forced to start another one!! :D Well, what do you know!!!! I finally got a photo up!! Now if I can get the couple that relate to quilting I'll be in high cotton!! :D Here are the flannel half yards, a couple of homespun pieces, and the books that I bought on Monday at The Cherry Pit. Love them! I think Blogger has decided I've posted enough pictures for today. :) So I'm off to shop the stash for applique. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

No Time for Blogging

I've been running literally all week. What little time I've had at home I've not had the energy to post anything. I have to think about what I want to say, and I just haven't been able to pull it together. Just wanted to let you know I'm still around. I hope to do a decent quilty post tomorrow, complete with pictures of my goodies that I purchased on Monday.

Shhh, Could It Be???

Psst, I think there may be MORE wool....I just got home from my "trouble" trip about an hour or so ago. We had a blast! Went to The Cherry Pit quilt shop in Sevierville, TN, and oh my, I want one of all of it!!! It's a wonderful shop, and the ladies who work there are so friendly and full of personality and life. Just a really fun place to go if you're ever in that neck of the woods. You'll have to wait til tomorrow to see what goodies I got. :D And yes, I spent more than I should have.....and only got 2 little bitty bags!!! But oh I do love it! :D Had dinner at a Cracker Barrel which was excellent, then headed on home. A fun, fun day! And it's ending perfectly....Randy had a fire going for me in the woodburner when I got in. Oh so snuggly....so I'm off to do some paperwork for tomorrow, and then I'm getting on the sofa in front of the fire with my new books for a few minutes before I crawl off to bed. LOL

Getting Into Trouble

I'm going to Knoxville with my friend, Evonne, again today....which will probably spell trouble for me as we are going to some quilt shops. :D I will be gone most of the day. Tomorrow I have an early a.m. doctor's appt. an hour away. So for the beginning of this week, I won't be on here much. I've added a couple more leaf blocks to the wall. I'm out of room there! Need to expand my viewing wall, don't I? :) And what is that BELOW the leaves? Oh my, could it be a bit of ...whisper...wool? Well, you have to understand that I have stash of one sort or another in several different places. LOL The tablerunner is one that I started several years ago (when DID we start these, Glorie?), and I've pulled it back out to finish up. Need some applique in those borders, and then I could use it during the Holidays. :D Hope everyone has a good week.

Cutting Wood

We worked all afternoon cutting a pickup load of wood and ricking it for the coming cold weather. :) Oh, I do love being outside doing stuff like that. And it gives me such a warm, cozy feeling to see our stacks of wood growing higher. I'll have to take a picture of it and post it for posterity's sake. :D I love the physical aspect of it too....makes me feel like I'm reacquainting my muscles with what they were originally intended to do. LOL I'm hoping that you can click on the scanned bread recipe and make it large enough for those of you who wanted it to print. It's from the book "New Complete Book of Breads" by Bernard Clayton. I found the baking time to be way too long for my oven, so I'm going to try it at 350 deg. for 35-40 min. the next time I make it. Send me an email if you can't get it to pull up large enough for you to print it off. The bread was absolutely wonderful....one loaf is all gone....but I have one left!! :D I appliqued a bit on table runner that I started waaayy back when that I'll post of picture of soon. Also cut a few more leaves out for piecing. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to rummage in the stash for more fabrics for it or just make as many leaves from the fat quarters that I've already used. And I'm still being "urged" by a few of you to show my wool stash. LOL I'm considering posting an "I Spy" picture of my sewing "stewdio" and let you pick out which pile is wool. ROFL You have no idea what a "mess" can be!!!! ROFL

Friday, October 20, 2006

I tried a new sourdough oatmeal bread recipe today. Yum, I could eat a whole loaf slathered with butter all by myself!! :D Linda J has stew cooking today....I think she and I should work out a share plan...Hey Linda, I'll give you bread if you share your stew! :D Worked on my hooked pumpkin rug today. Finished up a bunch of paperwork that has to go in the mail. That's about it for today.

Double-Dipping Today

Gorgeous sunset last night. Punkins ready for quilting Piecing a leaf block Just had to post again today just to let all of you know that I felt soooo much better today!!! I actually got laundry done, spent some time picking up/straightening up my sewing room (no, I didn't say the room next to the sewing room which is actually an extension of my sewing room LOL have to tackle that another day!!), found my cutting table and actually cut out 6 leaf blocks, and got my Punkins 4 Sale spray-basted and ready for machine quilting. Yeee Haaaa I have photos that I'm hoping blogger will let me put up just to prove I actually was in the sewing room!! LOL Phooooey, I just checked and the pictures AREN'T loading.....so we're trying that again. :) Marcie, over at Patchalot (I think LOL), just posted about working with wool. I love wool. I'm trying to decide if I dare "expose" myself to the world by posting pictures of my fabric closet and wool stash. Hmmmm, will have to give that one some thought......such a mess!!! ROFL

Another Foggy/Rainy Day

Fog advisory again this morning. And more rain on the way. Neither of which bother me one bit. I love rainy days. I do hate that Randy has to be driving an hour each way to work on days like this tho. It's one of those days that I would love to just curl up with a good book and read all day. :D I'm reading Shem Creek by Dorothea Benton Frank right now, and I LOVE her low country books. Too bad there are so many things demanding my attention....I'll have to save it until I can crawl into my bed tonight. :) Here's one of those pesky dish clothes that I keep mentioning. I keep "practicing" on these things trying to get them square. LOL If I were to give them as gifts, I would want them to be square, right? Wonky's good for me but......So if any of you crocheters out there have any tips, just simple DC, I would really appreciate them. :) And Nita and Sug, here's a picture of that hummingbird that laid claim to this particular feeder. Every day he would just sit there and dare any others to try to feed from his feeder. It was so cute...I really miss them now that they have left for warmer climes. I'll be waiting and watching for their return next March. :D On a quilty note, I'm trying to figure out how to use Bloglines so that I can be notified when a blogger has a new post up. I'm spending HOURS prowling through that list of quilt bloggers on NancyQuilts! LOL I've registered but I can't figure out how to add or subscribe to the feeds that I want. So again, all help will be appreciated!! LOL And with that, I'm going to get my "required" back and leg exercises done for the day, and then maybe I'll pull out an applique UFO (Lord knows I have a few of those lurking around LOL) and play with that a while. I have not made any more progress on my H-A-D leaf quilt. It's just hanging out in the sewing room waiting for me to rediscover it. :D I can hear it calling to me but there's so much clutter back there right now, I just can't work on it. Someone posted a comment on yesterday's post that maybe I could set a timer for 15 minutes and work for just that amount of time on straightening up in there. Excellent idea....maybe I'll do that and THEN pull out that applique UFO. :) I can't wait to see what Tattered Rabbit is up to for her Fall quilt. She's over-dying fabrics with tan dye and she's not telling what that project will be, hint, hint ROFL.

Wednesday, October 18, 2006

I decided to repost the picture of my little quilt....the first one was so VERY BAD!!! LOL This one looks much more like the actual quilt.
I've hit a deep slump when it comes to quilting. My sewing room is in such a mess that I don't even want to go in there. I keep waiting for the housecleaning fairy to arrive but she seems to have been held up somewhere else. LOL This little quilt is from Simple Blessings by Kim Diehl. I love this book....every quilt in it is one that I would love to have...as well as her book Simple Traditions. Both are wonderful books. I hand-pieced and hand-quilted this one. :) I apologize for the lousy photo quality. Speaking of books, I just went to the post office to pick up a package from Amazon. I finally got a HUGE bread book that I had ordered some time ago. Last Fall and Winter I spent playing with sourdough starter and bread. The one that I make isn't the sweet sourdough, but more of a yeasty bread. Delicious right out of the oven, slathered with butter.....yummmmm! I haven't made any in several months, so now that I'm off of the diet I was on for 3 weeks, I pulled my starter out of the fridge yesterday and started trying to revive it. :) Now, I'll also be wanting to try some of the bread recipes in this book that I got today. My nesting instincts kick in really strong in the Fall and Winter months. :) It's in the 70s today, so I'm going outside and see if I can get some of the clutter cleared from the back porch. I know we have more rain and cooler temps predicted for this weekend again, so I need to "make hay while the sun is shining" ! :)

Scattered Thoughts

I've been trying to upload some pictures for the last 3 days and blogger wouldn't cooperate. So I finally got these three up! Just some random photos to go with my scattered, random thoughts. :D By the way, this is Badger, my "baby boy" (altho he will be 10 in Dec.---wow, where did those years go???). And the little quilt is probably one of the first things that I made by myself. The "old" teddies came to live with us last Christmas...Santa brought them to me. *G* I dragged my rughooking, Aussie Country Threads magazines, and my dishclothe crochet stuff out to the porch....was such a beautiful day that I just had to be outside. Haven't really accomplished much with the rughooking OR the dishclothe, but I did get a couple of loads of laundry done...need to go switch another load. And Glorie (my niece/quilt buddy) called. We FINALLY had a nice long chat. We usually do this every weekend but lately (several months now) LIFE has been interfering with our weekend "get togethers" so I've been suffering a bit of withdrawal!! LOL We always have to cover quilting, rughooking, quilty shopping, latest quilt magazines, books, etc. Then of course we have to catch up on family "stuff", then go BACK to quilty stuff....well, you get the idea....so these conversations usually take a goodly amount of time!!! LOL So good for both of us. We live about 3 hrs. away from each other, so we CAN'T just run in and out of each other's houses (which is what we WISH we could do!!) at the drop of a hat. :D Now it's 4:15 p.m. already and I haven't cut or pieced any leaves today. :( My energy level is definitely on the wane, so I doubt that I will get any made again today. Dang, I'm really really tired of being tired!!! ROFL That's the ONLY complaint I'm going to post on here today!! I'm going to go blog visiting now...see what's been happening this weekend with my blog buddies. Happy Sunday, everyone!!

Guess How I Spent the Afternoon?

With a "weekend" neighbor who's MIL died not too long ago, and the MIL was a quilter, AND they had brought all of her quilty fabrics and notions down to their lakehouse for sorting. I spent the afternoon going thru tons of fabric, sorting by color, etc., and came home with a trunk full of scraps for doggie beds, small pieces that my neighbor didn't want to fool with, loads of pieces that have already been cut for a double wedding ring (which I haven't gotten up the nerve to try yet), and bunches of semi-assembled wedding ring sections (huge G), so I would imagine that now is the right time for me to try a double wedding ring!!! :D Also got a lot of muslin, and as my neighbor said, you know where there's tons more if you need it. :) I don't know this girl well, but I think that she would be a lot of fun to hang out with. I just can't convince her that she should try quilting. She says she doesn't have the patience for it but maybe, with all of those bins of fabric, she may change her mind. Or her 20+ year old daughter might. I have gotten her interested in crocheting a rag rug, and she picked out lots of Christmas fabrics for one of those. Hey Finn, I copied and took her your instructions that I made my rug by *G* and told her to go get her a P or Q hook, and I would be back to help her get that started. :) Anyway, it was a fun afternoon. Now tomorrow I REALLY have to get some laundry done, sort and toss a bunch of magazines (which is what I was working on when I got the call to play in fabric :D), and THEN maybe I can go in my sewing room for a few minutes. I REALLY REALLY want to use these bits and pieces of fabric that I got today to start another rug with!! And I want to piece some more leaves for my H-A-D leaf quilt. I'm also anxious to start working on the alternate block. Then there're my wool projects that I have neglected. I started hooking a small pumpkin, and I really would like to get that done by November. LOL However, as slow as I am sometimes, it may be NEXT November!! ROFL Anyway, it was a beautiful day outside, and I spent it in a large garage with the doors open to the lake and sun and fall foliage playing in fabric. Can it get any better than that? :D

A Blue and Green Day

After a VERY chilly morning, with our first frost, it has turned out to be a BEAUTIFUL Fall day! Couldn't resist taking the pups out for a short walk...we all enjoyed just being outside in the fresh air. It was actually 26 deg. this a.m.---and tonight's temps are to be about the same! Early Winter! :D I am thinking that a fire in the stove would be a wonderful idea for tonight and in the early morning. :D I have felt so much better today. Even cut out a couple of leaf blocks but haven't sewn them yet. I've spent way too much time on the computer today catching up on all of my blog buddies. Have to seize the moment when Randy is out of the house....otherwise he's on here working. :) I tried to post a couple of pictures but blogger isn't cooperating, so maybe I can get them up tomorrow. Just wanted to pop in and say hello. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Ooops, I forgot something!

I wanted to thank ALL of my new blogger buddies for their posted well-wishes!! Although I've only been blogging for such a short time, I feel that I've already made the most wonderful, caring friends a person could have. Thanks so much for sending those wishes my way!!

I'm Home!! :)

Yes, I'm back home. Got home yesterday afternoon about 3:00 p.m., a bit tattered around the edges, a LOT radioactive LOL, but in one piece. What an experience. As I'm typing this, I am wearing those thin latex gloves so I don't contaminate Randy's computer keyboard. :) And Dewey, Badger and Homer Kitty can't understand why Mom isn't loving all over them since she's been gone for days...but it's only for a week...one can do ANYTHING for a week, right??? I might was well go ahead and fill everybody in on what's going on (this is obviously not a quilty post, so all of my new quilting blog buddies feel free to skip this post LOL) since most of my family and friends now know that I have a blog and check in to see what I'm up to. I have a large mass on my left thyroid. My heart has been "flipping out" :) for about a year now, so the endocrinologist put me on a beta blocker to slow the heart, put me on an iodine-free diet for 2 weeks, and sent me on Monday and yesterday for a 2-day iodine uptake study. As luck would have it, I have the Graham genes (Nita, be sure and tell Barbara that she's NOT the only one of us with these messed-up genes our parents bequeathed to us LOL), my situation is, according to the nuclear med doctor "complex". The levels did not come back as high as they evidently hoped they would, I do have a "hot nodule" which may or may not be malignant, so they gave me the highest dose of radiation (pill form) that they could give me without putting me in the hospital and doing even higher doses of radiation. Now, it's just a matter of letting time pass and see if the radiation has eradicated the mass. I have a dr. appt. on Oct. 24th to see how things are progressing. As my endocrinologist told me two weeks ago, this will be a long, drawn-out process for me. Unfortunately, he couldn't just put me on a thyroid med and send me on my way with everything under control. :( But, hey, us Grahams are "hardy stock"!!! LOL So, there you have it, in a nutshell. I'm really glad to have that part of the journey behind me and to be home. Now, let's see if I can get some of this mess that's called my home picked up, straightened up, put away, etc., LOL. I really did leave things in a bit of a mess when I left on Sunday. :) I have 13 of my leaves done for my hour-a-day leaf quilt. Will take a picture soon and post it. I hope to get back to that within the next couple of days. The leaves are taking me a while to do as I'm making each leaf individually. The alternate block will go much faster as it's only 2 fabrics and I can speed cut and sew. The biggest problem with this health mess that I have is that it has really cut my energy level waaayyy down---and I was NEVER a very high energy person anyway!! ROFL Maybe I should just take to my bed -- with quilt books and mags, of course!!! ROFL

I'll be gone for a couple of days having some medical tests done, so it will probably be Tuesday evening or Wednesday before I get back to my blog. I'll leave with a picture of our trees starting to turn. I was sitting on the porch this afternoon thinking how much they've changed in just a couple of days...and how much more color will be waiting for me when I get back home.

Fall is Here

This is the first applique piece that I did and had no idea how to do it!! So don't look too closely, it has LOTS of mistakes in it. LOL I didn't even know what kind of thread to use for the blanket stitch, so I just used regular sewing thread doubled. :D But in spite of it's quirkiness I love this quilt. Guess it will always have a special place in my heart since it was the start of what was to become my favorite form of quilting...needleturn applique. It's quite cool here today...had a storm come thru again last night, and it washed all of the haze from the air, so it's one of those perfectly clear Fall days. A few clouds floating around...a great day to get outside and putter around. I still have a lot of cleaning up to do outside, but I'm trying to do as the dr. ordered, and not get too excited about anything. LOL Hopefully, after I get next week's tests behind me, then I can get back to the outside chores.

Wonky Punkins 4 Sale from the Wonky Punkin Patch at Ship's Landing

Decided to pull a couple of UFOs out of the pile last night. Finished needleturn applique on the folk art flowers, and it's ready for it's pieced borders. The "Punkins 4 Sale" was started last Fall while my niece was here for a visit. She did the cutting, got most of her's pieced while she was here (I think :P), and of course finished her's and used it last Fall. As soon as I hit a snag with mine, it was tossed into the UFO pile. I'm challenged when it comes to "straight seams" and "pieced borders" ;P. So, I decided this a.m. that I would get the borders on the "punkins" by "whacking" whatever was in the way and holding up progress!! LOL With any luck at all, I'll get the "punkins" quilted this afternoon....well, after I clean the bathrooms and get up a bit of dust in the livingroom. They're calling for rain this afternoon (altho it's really pretty outside right now), so I think it would be a great day to spend in the sewing room.

I Love Winter

You Belong in Winter
Quiet, calm, and totally at peace... You're happy to be at home, wrapped in a blanket, completely snowed in Whether you're lighting a fire or having a snowball fight, you always feel best in the winter.

You Are Red Orange

You Are Red Orange
You are a very genuine person, although it takes a while for you to show the true you. A bit introverted, you desire respect and affection from those close to you. You are quite empathetic, and you have a true concern for the well being of others. Many people have warm, heartfelt memories of you - even if you don't remember them well.

Done Done

Here it is---6 yards of fabric, and a few weeks later, and I have a crocheted rug that finished to about 29-1/2". I'm very very pleased with how it turned out! Thank you, Finn!!! This rug is what started my blogging---and also "created" the name of my blog "The Thread Catcher". LOL I was working on my rug early on when someone rang the doorbell. I got up to go to the door, glanced down, and I had threads ALL OVER the front of my clothes. LOL Hence, the name. Now, I have to decided what colors to pull so I can try an oval rug. :D Fall colors, right??? But do I just start cutting strips from darker hued fabrics? I don't have any dark fabric that is in a large amount of yardage like the fabric I used for this rug. So, I'll ponder that for a bit. I have completed another couple of leaf blocks for my hour-a-day quilt---but---it's slow going when you have to sew, reverse sew, and sew again! LOL every seam that you sew!!! Oh, and I did receive the amount of yardage that I had ordered for the alternate block in the leaf quilt. I'm really thrilled with this particular fabric. I haven't started the alternate blocks yet, and I'm moving really slowly on the leaves cause I'm doing one at a time as I pull fat quarters that say "Fall" to me (well, of course, in addition to sewing a single seam several times LOL). My friend Evonne called last night to tell me she had maybe found the "pumpkin" pattern I had been looking for. I knew I had it...in a magazine...in a book....but I had zillions and had been on a OCD tear looking for the quilt. Someone asked in a comment the other day if I had found the pattern I was looking for. At that time, no I hadn't, and it was making me even crazier than I already am!!! LOL But Evonne found it for me in the Oct. 2003 American Patchwork and Quilting mag!!! Yea!!!!!! So, now I can compare how they pieced their letters with Tonya's (lazygalquilting), and see if my brain can grasp the concept behind Tonya's. :) Thanks bunches, Evonne!!! :)

Can You Believe This?

Looked out my kitchen window and this is what I saw: They must be twins, and they must feel sooo safe here!! See Den, now, how could you even think about hurting one of these when they've grown up???? Someone has probably already made them orphans :(. They're just lying there in the shade chewing on their cuds. One has lost his spots already, but the other still has them. I have done nothing quilty today. I have crocheted another dish cloth, and that's it. My sister-in-law misunderstood the post about my fabric weighing me down LOL...she suggests that she needs my pumpkin runner to go on her new table that my brother built for her. LOL I'll make a trade with you, VK....I'll work on a runner for you in exchange for the round table you replaced!! How 'bout that? :)

Green Acres

Just had to post a pic of my best buddy on the tractor using the bushhog. This is a man that had never even been on a tractor until last weekend. (Huge Grins) It was soooo fun watching him. Alas, being as this is "Green Acres" ROFL, the tractor quit shortly after he had bushhogged the section he was practicing on. Now we have to find us a mechanic. :( It was fun while it lasted, tho!!! LOL More later on quilty stuff, etc.

Need Help, Please

Can someone tell me how to change where you post your comments section from the bottom to the side? I've prowled through everything, but can't find the place that let's me make this choice. Thanks bunches.

Happy October

I haven't decided where to put this runner yet :) Don't know where the summer went, but here we are the first day of October! I'm afraid that if I snooze it will be time for Santa and I will have missed the pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns, candy corn, and trick-or-treaters (not that we have any trick-or-treaters where we live LOL)! I pieced ONE leaf block yesterday (I think that puts me up to 5 blocks total so far), and got most of a crocheted dish cloth made. I had never even seen a crocheted cotton dish cloth until several years ago at a friend's house, and that got me started on using them. Since I don't get out to many festivals, I have a hard time finding them, so I decided some years ago that I could make my own. I think I may have made one or two at that time, and then moved on to something else (that short attention span disorder that I have LOL) . Now I need some dish cloths, so I'm trying to whip up a few for myself....along with a couple for a friend of mine and a sister. I've already been out on the porch with my first cup of coffee crocheting. :) (And no I didn't just get up....that was a couple of hours ago *G*) I've been thinking about all of this fabric that I have. Down time (which is what I'm supposed to be having right now) has led me to thinking that it's time for me to STOP buying all of this quilting fabric and books and use up some of what I have. And I do have a LOT. So much so that I have stuff piled up in the floor of my sewing room, room next to the sewing room, and my fabric closet (which is a walk-in and you CAN'T walk in it!!!!!). And no more room to put any of it where it should go!!! It's all beginning to weigh me down. Sometimes I feel buried by all of this hobby stuff. My O/C disorder is really really prevalent in this regard. LOL Too bad I don't seem to have that O/C disorder when it comes to house cleaning and things that really need to be done!!! LOL So I'm setting October as my beginning of not buying anymore irregardless of what my best quilt buddies---Glorie and Evonne-- are buying and tempting me with. And now I have to add all of my blogging buddies---I love reading everyone's blog, see those lovely quilts, some of which I know are kitted, see those luscious new fabrics that are out, and so I'm even more exposed to all of those goodies that I WANT!! I buy and then I always feel soooo guilty for however long it takes to leave my mind. I think it would be different for me if I were actually working all of this stuff up---making one quilt or topper right after another--but I'm not doing that. I spend most of my time THINKING about making them If I spent HALF as much time actually cutting and sewing as I do dreaming over all of these patterns and fabrics, well, law, I would have PILES of quilts!! LOL Time for turning over a new leaf LOL. Time for a change. Just like going from Summer to Fall. :) Time for Glorie and Martha and those other quilter friends of Glorie's (you know who you are!!! LOL) to come to Ships' Landing for a quilting retreat!!! The goal will be "stashbusting" for me, and you guys can work on anything you want! :) After the middle of October will be best because I like to cook for my company, and right now I can't eat my favorite foods, so we have to wait until I can eat too!!! LOL So, Glorie, start working on them (or at least start picking a date when YOU can come play with me)!
