How Can It Be Thursday Already?

I have been outside every day this week, and the week has flown by! I only took a break this afternoon to run in and get a drink of water, and decided to post just a quick note to let everyone know I'm okay. I've still got TONS of yard work to do, and I keep getting distracted watching the Swallows and the Goldfinches. :D Randy helped me put up two new bluebird houses day before yesterday, and the Swallows are going to rent them out first. :) The redbud trees are just gorgeous right now...and, just a tiny quilting note, a pillow that I made last year (I think LOL). Gotta go dig some more weeds up. :)

Another Day Outside

and these are a couple of pictures from last year...things that we are looking forward to again in the near future. :D That is Randy with Dewey and Badger on our lake bank. The lake usually is completely filled up, but obviously it was still quite low when I snapped this picture. I'm debating on hanging my hummingbird feeder, even tho I haven't seen a hummer yet. I know it can't be long now before they are buzzing around out there demanding that I fill their feeder for them. :) I do have some pictures that I've taken recently that I want to post, but I haven't uploaded them from the camera yet. Soon! (they aren't quilt-related tho :( )

Sug (my sister) came for a visit yesterday afternoon, and we hung around outside on the porch watching the birds. :D Oh, we did have coffee and a piece of almond pound cake that was still warm from my oven. Yummy. :D It was a great visit. We even mixed up a batch of Martha Stewart's homemade deer repellant and sprayed my hostas (that are just starting to emerge), daylillies, and lilac bush. I haven't tried this before, but heck, I think I've tried everything else and the deer still win out. :D I love watching the deer, but I would love for them to munch on something besides my flowers. :) The weather for the last week has just been toooo gorgeous for me to stay inside. I do have hand-applique that I want to get done, but I've been so whipped by dark that I haven't even been doing that. And I really, really want to make one of Darlene's tabletoppers. I may have to drag myself into my fabric closet tonight and pull out some fabrics for one of those.

I'm going to go swing the maddock a while longer. I really haven't gotten that much accomplished today. The phone has rung off the hook for mediation scheduling, so I have been carrying my phones and calendar outside with me. Some days are busier than others (on the phone), and today is one of them.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend, and that your week is off to a great start. I'll let you know how the digging goes. :D (Oh, I almost forgot...yeah, I have to admit to Darlene that I'm a blog 'stalker' too. LOL)

Beautiful Week

I've been outside digging in the dirt all week. It's been such gorgeous weather, that I just couldn't stay inside. So I haven't sewn a stitch all week. :( I think it actually got to 80 deg. today. I haven't even put the borders on the runner that I worked on last Sunday. Maybe if it rains (?) (LOL) next week I'll be forced to stay inside, do so much needed dusting, and turn the sewing machine on again. :) Darlene, over at 'quilting daze' wrote up instructions to her toppers that she's been making, and I really, really want one of them too. :D Meanwhile, I'm just popping in here to let you know that I'm still kicking. :D Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

Belated Happy St. Patrick's Day

I know, I know, it's time to get the bunnies out. But you see, I'm always several days late and a whole bunch of dollars short. LOL And since I have NO, yes, I'm sad to say you read that right--NO pictures from the quilt show to share, I wanted you to see my little shamrock that I made last year. It's actually on the wall now, and off of my photo 'stage' :). I did take my camera to the show, but left it in the car. It was frigid cold, and when I realized I needed the camera, I just COULDN'T go get it. We had to park way up on the hill and ride the golf cart down LOL. Anyway, there were lots of quilts, and even more people at the show, and we didn't even get to the other building that they also had a quilt exhibit in. They are really going to have to do something about a larger building. Their space and parking are waaaay outgrown.

Glorie and I had a good time, even tho I was still dragging a bit from the sinus infection. She actually started cutting out a king-size bed quilt on Saturday evening, and by the time she was ready to head for home on Sunday at 2:00, she already has quite a bit sewn. I got to test drive her Bernina 200 which has the stitch regulator on it. I was no better with it than I am on my regular Bernina. :D I need LOTS of practice at this machine quilting, I can tell you! LOL After she left on Sunday, I started piecing a new spring tablerunner. It has 3 16-piece blocks on point in the center that Glorie had already cut and brought to me. :) Got those pieced and stitched with their setting triangles. Now I'm ready to put the borders on. Thought I would work on that today, but I've been outside most of the day digging weeds out of the flowerbed. Guess who won't be able to move tomorrow??? LOL

The rest of the week is supposed to be in the 70s so I'll be outside more than in. Hope everyone had a fantastic St. Patrick's Day!

Spring Fever

Yesterday we had a high of 71, today it's supposed to be 75---then Sat. night a low of 28. Is that crazy or what!! :D Friday is supposed to be in the 50s. Glorie (my niece) is coming for a weekend visit, and we're planning on going to the Pigeon Forge Quilt Show on Friday. The first year we went it snowed. Last year was so warm we were in shirtsleeves. We may be going full circle here with the weather. :)

I have to make a path through the house and pick up a few groceries before Friday morning. Shoveling out the sewing room again will take more time than anything. I'm just completely out of room for storing quilt books and magazines, yet there are always new ones that I want. I have piles of them in the sewing room floor that have to be moved in order for the two of us to be able to get in there and play. :D

The little wallhanging that I've posted is one that I did last year. It's wool applique on cotton background, and I hand-quilting this one. It's one of my favorites. :)

Spring Ahead

Here you go, Meggie, the Johnny Jumpup. Isn't it adorable? They are soooo teeny tiny. They hide, all nestled in the grass, and sometimes I only get a glimpse of them. :D I remember as a child picking these tiny little flowers, and most springs I end up picking a few to float in a clear glass bowl or brandy snifter. Hmmmm, wonder what I did with that snifter. Haven't seen it in several years. Guess that's why I end up putting them in a small, clear dessert bowl. :) You can't tell it by the picture, but it's actually the palest of pale yellows, creamy may be a better color description. :) Where I grew up, they were purple, and sometimes here I find pale lavender ones. So far this season, all I've seen are this color.

The wallhanging was made and given to me several years ago by Glorie (my niece). I always have it out for March since I associate the Sunbonnet Sues flying kites in the March winds. And Lord knows, we have had some wicked winds this March. :D

I happened to glance out my kitchen window yesterday evening and saw these two big turkeys having their evening snack. I, quick, grabbed the camera to get a picture of them. Ooooh, I DO love this tripod! :) As long as the camera is still attached to it, it really does make it soooo much easier to snap pictures without having to worry about trying to hold the camera completely still. Of course, I still managed to get a bit of a blur LOL but I'm definitely getting better photos with it.

Badger did really well last night, and so far this morning he seems to be improving too. He will be on the steroid and muscle relaxer through the rest of the weekend, and hopefully by Monday he will be feeling much better. :) Of course, I have done very little of what I had planned to do with my days alone due to running back and forth to the doctor for me on Wed, taking Badger to the vet on Thurs., going to bring him back home yesterday, and each of these trips take between an hour and an 1-1/2 one way. Since bringing him back home yesterday evening, I've been playing doggie nurse and trying to keep him from wandering around when I put him down for drinks (the pred makes them really thirsty) and to go potty.

So, there you have it, folks! LOL That pretty well sums up most of this past week. Gone in a flash! Now, maybe I can do a bit of sewing, do ya think? LOL

Upper 60s Today

The vet just called and said that Badger is doing MUCH better this morning! I may get to bring him home this evening. I am so relieved! He will have to stay confined at least through the weekend, but that's okay. At least he will be home. :D Neither Dewey nor I know how to act without my little sweet-faced fella (see first picture, all pictures enlarge with a click) here with us. :) Needless to say, the vet's call with good news started my Friday off on a wonderful note!!

Yesterday evening, Dewey and I took a quick stroll down to the water's edge to see how close our dock is to floating, and I saw my first Johnny-JumpUp of the season. I was soooo excited, but I didn't have my camera with me. So I'll be out searching for that tiny little blossom today so I can "record" exactly when they start popping up in the spring. Those little flowers have always heralded spring for me, even more so than the daffodils.

My friend Evonne, her hubby, and her MIL stopped by for a short visit yesterday evening. That was a greatly-needed bright spot in an otherwise worrisome day! I had not met Bobby's Mom before, and she's just precious. She's sewn all of her life, and still does some quilting. She took an older Singer sewing machine home with her to see if she can get the tension straightened out on it. Someone had given it to me months ago. I think it's from the 60s or 70s. Definitely NOT a Featherweight--this thing weighs an absolute TON. LOL Bobby has a Featherweight, tho, that he would sell me for $200. I just need to round up the funds and I can join the FW groupies. LOL

Photos of: Badger, a Swallow (they are so graceful in flight and a beautiful bird), daffodil peeking out of the weeds.

Daylight Savings Time Two Weeks Early

Look who came to visit! I'm thrilled!! This is the first red-wing blackbird that I've seen here.
Signs of spring in my flowerbed :D

Dewey and Badger (with his tail up :D) on the lake bank. High winds blew in lots of trash.
Looking up into my maple tree that's budding! I just love this picture!

It's a good thing one of our fellow bloggers mentioned in a post yesterday that the time will be set forward THIS WEEKEND! I had no idea the Powers That Be had declared that this will be done earlier this year. Oh my goodness, right when I'm just about to adjust to it being set back an hour LOL. I do wish they would just pick one and leave it there, forever and ever, amen. :D

I want to take down the snowmen wallhangings now and hang some spring ones. I have a pieced shamrock wallhanging that I need to dig out and get up on the wall. If I don't hurry up, St. Patrick's Day will have come and gone with only snowmen to wave at it's passing. :D And it's time to pull out spring tablerunners, too. :D

Badger is definitely worse this morning. Of the last several years, this is the worst (is that a word? LOL) one by far. I'm really worried about him. And the vet that has nursed him through these in the past is off today. It breaks my heart to see him like this, and every year when this happens I wonder if this will be when I have to say goodbye to him.

Well, it's 4:18 p.m. and I just got back from taking Badger to my favorite, competent vet who is 2-1/2 hrs. round trip away from me. I had to leave him; just as I suspected he does have a disc going again. The other vet that works at this clinic said he's very weak in his hind quarters, and his reflexes were really slow, but she felt that, with lots of very strong steroids and muscle relaxers, he should pull out of it again. And, of course, being caged so that he is totally still. They're supposed to call me later this evening to let me know how he is and how an x-ray of his back looks. I don't know yet how long he'll have to be in the 'hospital'. However long is fine, as long as he gets back on his feet again.

Oops, I Lost 5 Days!

Don't know where they went!! :D I have been to the doctor (GP) today, and got really good news! The iodine radiation treatment worked! Yeaaaa! Now the thyroid levels are too low, but according to my dr., this will be easily remedied by a simple little pill. I have to go back to the endocrinologist on Monday, and after seeing him, I will start some sort of thyroid medication. I have felt so much better this last week, and that's just been incredible. I've felt lousy for so long I had forgotten what it was like to actually feel good. And my dr. also said that once I start the medication, it should give me more energy, and that I should drop this extra weight fairly easily. The weight gain has really bothered me cause all of my clothes are tooooo tight. But at least I know why I've gained, and there's relief in sight!! LOL Randy left for Chicago this morning. He won't be back until Sunday night. I have big plans to get some cleaning and straightening up done around here. THEN I want to sew. I have my second Whig Rose block ready to work on; I've just been waiting until I got him out the door. :) I've been planning to spend time in my sewing room while he's away, but you know about the best laid plans, and all of that...well, Badger (one of my two wienie dogs) has come up lame again. Every Spring is a bit apprehensive for me (since 2002) because every May he has another disc go in his back. Only this time it's hit him earlier than usual, and I've been carrying him wherever he needs to go, and locking him in the large pet carrier if I have to be gone. I started him on Prednisone again yesterday. That, plus caging him for 4-6 weeks, usually pulls him out of it. He doesn't want me out of his sight, so it makes it more difficult to actually go in my sewing room and stay there. I may end up doing more applique than anything the next few days. I have some pictures (not quilty, tho) that I want to post but haven't uploaded them from the camera yet. I'll do that later today.

Will Wonders Never Cease

Two posts in two days---law, I must be feeling better!! LOL I have to share some scenery photos that I took today and at dusk. My birthday present finally arrived today--no, it wasn't quilt-related, can you believe it??? Well, maybe a bit related since I'll be taking pictures of quilt projects. :) I got a tripod for my little digital camera!!! Yea!!! I have a zoom for my camera, and it makes it very topheavy and hard to take pictures that aren't blurred. So, I ordered a tripod, and I LOVE IT!! What do you think? (Hmmm, those deer in my back yard look a bit blurred to me but I took that picture from inside the house through the windowglass.) And that's actually a cloud across the moon---isn't it just awesome???? Been trying to capture a picture of the moon ever since I got this little camera, and they were ALWAYS blurred. :)

Nadine left a comment on my last post about being in the 'hippo-feeling' club along with me (ROFL), and I LOVE her 'cache-miseries' clothes -- 'hide miseries' -- now those were the style that I was looking for the other day!! LOL Carol, in FL, said they had the same discussion on clothes styles in her shop the other day as well. Hmmmm, anybody got any contacts in the fashion design world that we could 'picket'? ROFL Meggie made a good point--maybe the people who notice that I've gained weight will feel good about themselves for NOT having gained (now, Megs, that really IS a different perspective, I must admit!!! LOL) Darlene says she waddles when she walks and looks like a beached whale when she lies down....well, so do I girlfriend, so don't feel like the Lone Ranger!! :D And Marcie thinks I should come visit her in VA Beach, cause she feels my pain about the weight gain, and if I were to visit her then I could chase her around the block and we would both feel better----hmmmm, you really think we would feel better, Marcie?, or are you trying to kill me, girlfriend???? ROFL I couldn't run to the first corner of the block, let alone ALL THE WAY AROUND IT!!! LOL

The point of sharing their comments is that each of you, and the others that I didn't name specifically, just put joy in my life each and every day. :D You make me smile, and most of the time, I end up laughing out loud when I'm doing my blog journey each day. A thousand thanks to all of you who take the time to come visit me, leave me comments, and lift my mood--everyday. :D

It's Raining, It's Pouring

This is my first block, completed, of the Whig Rose quilt by Kim Diehl. I've pulled all of the fabrics for the second block except one piece. I decided to just choose fabrics for one block at a time. So, I'm almost ready to start the second block.

It's pouring the rain today. Looks like from the middle of the country to the eastern seaboard will be having some kind of 'weather' today. We have to go to the funeral home tonight, and needless to say, we are not looking forward to that. A friend and colleague died suddenly at 58--it will be a really difficult evening. He was such a dedicated husband and father that his family is just totally devastated. Add the rain and winds, and you know that I just want to curl up here in my nest.

I MADE myself go out yesterday to try to find something to wear tonight. I have about 20 extra pounds on my body right now, and I feel like a hippo waddling around. :) All of my clothes are too tight, and I'm miserable when I have to 'dress'. Yuk. But let me tell you, I HATE the styles that are out there right now!!!! If you aren't 20 and stick thin, well, forget it!! At least in my humble opinion, that is. I came home with a pair of black slacks and a black skirt but NO tops. Those nylon, stretchy things that are in the stores now are AWFUL on me. So I'll just have to pull out one of my ancient, loose-fitting dresses, and go like the Country Cousin that I am, hoping that no one will pay me the least bit of attention. Vain, I know, but I go out so seldom, and I really have gained so much weight during this mess with my thyroid, that I would just hide out at home until I get the weight off if I could. :(

I've been such a bad blogger the last couple of months. I apologize. So this is my attempt at doing better at posting. Thought if I posted on the first day of the month, maybe--just maybe--I could get back to posting at least every other day. You know, tho, there ae just some days that I truly feel like I have nothing to say that's worth sharing. :)

I've already tried posting once today and lost it...so, let's see if I can get this one up. :)
