Backyard Walktober

Marlee heard me talking about lovely Princess Katie at Change is Hard joining Robin at https://breezesatdawn.wordpress.com/ who is hosting her annual Walktober.  Of course, Marlee thinks she's a princess too, and wanted to join in.  Our Walktober, for now, is in our backyard.  We may gather photos from longer walks next week.

We are experiencing breathtaking weather this last couple of weeks.  The days have been drenched in sunlight and blue skies and leaves changing colors before our eyes.  The slant of the sunlight through the trees has that distinct difference to it.  It's like no other season's light.  And night draws inky blankets over the day earlier each day, with stars on stunning display.  Lamps are lit and blinds are drawn.  Thoughts turn to gourds and pumpkins, Mums and Jack-o-Lanterns, flannel sheets on the bed and snuggly quilts.

With leaves turning and starting to drop, can you believe that there is a violet (Johnnie Jump Up) in bloom in the back yard on October 8, 2020?  I have never seen this before.  Curiouser and curiouser.

It takes longer living on the coast for leaves to change. However, inland the colors are amazing. Your photos are lovely and that last flower. Wow.

DVArtist--The leaves aren't brilliant colors here, but their golden hues are like bright lights. So beautiful. The flower that you referenced is a Morning Glory, and it has come up on its own in my yard. Every time I spy a bloom it brings a smile to my face. Thanks so much your visit and comment.

You are an artist with your words as well as your camera, Angie. You paint a lovely word picture of fall--so accurate.
I love the morning Glory. Almost four years after my Father's passing, I am still caring for his raspberry patch, and there is a morning glory that has volunteered this fall in the middle of one row. Every time I pass it and view those lovely blooms it warms my heart. It was a favorite flower of mine as a child, but we had none. The neighbor 2 doors down had one that climbed a telephone pole on the corner of her yard and I thought it was so beautiful. Now I see this blooming in the garden of my childhood home in possibly the last summer I will be tending to the garden. It is touching to me.

Janet O. - Thank you, Janet, for your lovely comments. The weather has been just breathtaking lately. I know changes are on the way, so I'm trying to soak up each of these days. Aren't morning glories just so luminous and special? They were a part of my childhood too, and every time one catches my eye, I am just delighted by them. They are so detailed for such an humble little flower. :) What a special gift for you to be able to tend to your Dad's raspberry patch! I had some wild raspberries that I had transplanted from along the road to the house at the lake that were absolutely delicious. Such precious memories for you, my sweet friend.

Blogger picks up my old account, by the way. I couldn't figure out how to link it to my WordPress blog.

Robin -- Hello, Robin, I'm so glad you stopped by. No worries about liking on your Wordpress blog. It was fun for Marlee and I to join in. May share again (is that permissible?) next week as we will be at another location, with more photo opportunities.

Don't you love it when you see a wildflower like that violet blooming out of its main season? Such a great feeling of joy! Glad to read of your Walktober, and for joining in so many of ours. :)

Hi, Angie, I'm visiting from Robin's site, and wanted to say I love your sweet pup and foliage photos. I have violets blooming in my lawn, too. There are always a few that send up late blooms just to make me smile and assure me that spring will be waiting for me at the end of winter. :)

I had to go back and look again at that violet, so late in the season, but Johnny Jump-ups are sort of like pansies and pansies like cool weather. Katie says HI!!!! to Princess Marlee!! She says it's good to see another princess doing the Walktober! She believes it's every princesses right to get out for glorious walks especially during the wonderful fall weather. She hopes to see you again soon!

This is a wonderful Angie and Marlee. Why go far when you have all this in your very own backyard? And that happened to me! I had a Johnnie Jump Up, jump in October. Your photos and your prose are lovely.
