I didn't realize until a few years ago what Juneteenth really was. Then I felt much more respect for what this holiday means for all of us in America. So much of America's growth can be traced back to the work of slaves. What horrible lives they led! Yet they lived with such dignity and faith. They loved their families and communities even though they were so often forced to be separated from those they cherished. All our jazz and rock and roll music we owe to our African American roots. Whenever we see a traffic light, we owe a thanks to an African American--just another thank you. Our paths are entwined forever. We all have one God who loves each one of us with the same perfect love.
