Harvesting Lavender

The mornings have been soooo beautiful.  I find myself getting up a little earlier every day so I can have these delicious morning hours with nature. 

We're headed into Summer and my Lavender is gorgeous.  The bees have found the blossoms and are feasting, becoming inebriated on the essence of Lavender.  Baby birds are hatching right and left, and the air is abuzz with chirps and buzzes and croaks of new 'life'.  It makes my head spin with all of the activity, never knowing which direction to be looking and listening, swiveling like one of those toy animals whose little heads bobbled all about that used to ride in the back window of cars in days gone by.  :)  I am intent on soaking it all up like a sponge.

We've had company and I missed posting yesterday on May Day. (Thanks for your help Sherry ;)--(our guest headed back to Texas today) The mornings have been delightful; by mid-day the temperatures are already in to the 80s.  It is only the beginning of May, right?  Doth high temps so early in the Spring portend even hotter, more humid Summer days in the offing?  :/

I nestled some petunias and marigolds in one of the flower beds yesterday morning.  I ventured out this morning intending to extend a flower bed so I could give a few more 'tunias and marigolds a spot for the Summer.  I made progress, not as much as I wanted, but hey, I have to take LOTS of little breaks along the way :), especially with it heating up so quickly.  Add the humidity and I have to retreat into the house.  :/

Bed changing, bathroom cleaning, and laundry are screaming for attention.  Happy Beltane!

It's April...no joke :)

I saw my first lightning bug of the season on Friday (March 30).  I feel like that is just way too early for them to be out.  Spring is in full swing here at Ships Landing.  The magic and mystery of nature unfurling in every direction that my gaze lands has me so caught up in the wonder and beauty of it all that I can hardly tear myself away to do anything but revel in it.

The Ides of March...Already??

How can it already be March 1?  In like a Lion/Out like a Lamb...It's amazing that the Lilacs are already leafing out, the Daffodils are in bloom, the Tree Swallows came home this morning and were checking out the condo rentals for the Spring.  I feel like I'm caught up in a time warp of some sort.  One of my Rosemarys is full of blossoms (and has been all Winter!).  The Spirea is blooming/leafing.  The ground is so soaked that water stands in pools.  The weather is so strange, the winds are blowing in weird currents, storms are brewing, portents and harbingers----of change(?)  Will we have snow in May?

I was about to toss this FAVORITE pair of socks out because the elastic is shot, but then I had a brilliant idea---make them into microwave rice packs.  I made them this morning and I'm thrilled with them (and no, it DOESN'T take much to thrill me LOL).


I was beginning to wonder if I would get my house blocks made before February became a dim memory.  :)  The picture is awful---the lighting in our house leaves a lot to be desired, and it's almost 8:30 p.m.  Irregardless, the houses for February ARE Orange and they are DONE DONE DONE yippee :} and there are two of them.   :D
